Leo and Daisy books are written by Stephen C. Blaufuss. He lives with Leo and Daisy in Hillsboro, Oregon. Stephen started writing in 1999 when he wrote to his hiking friends about the weekend hike he took. Everyone enjoyed these stories and encouraged him to keep writing. Besides dog and hiking stories, he also writes poetry. Snakes Do Not Eat French Fries is one of his favorite poems. This poem was inspired by four garter snakes that lived with Stephen for a few years. Their names were Gretchen, Zeus, Thor, and Kirt. When Daisy came to live at the house, it was time to let the snakes go to the woods. Daisy was too curious about these small slithery creatures.

When not writing or taking pictures of Leo and Daisy, Stephen hikes on Mount Hood in the Oregon Cascades, plays his trombone in a local community symphony, travels by trains, and works as a mechanical engineer designing trucks.
